This graph represents cost-per-mile in cents for depreciation and maintenance of a typical
fleet sedan averaging 20,000 miles per year. Use this chart to help figure out the optimum
replacement interval. For example, replacing vehicles at 60,000 miles means four
replacement vehicles in a 12-year period. Fleets replaced on this schedule will incur the
higher first-year costs four times and will not take advantage of the lower fourth-year
costs (60,000-80,000 miles) at all. Replacing vehicles at 80,000 miles means three replacement vehicles in the same 12-year period. Fleets replaced on this schedule will
incur the higher first-year costs only three times, and will take advantage of the lower
fourth-year costs three times.
